About Us

Our Inspiration

Stuff and Nonsense is a collaboration of the ideas of four woman from one family, who wanted to use their gifts and talents to do something different in the world.   We have all experienced hardship in this life. In the last three years we couldn't avoid it. We struggled through the pandemic hand in hand, while six feet apart. We showed our love for one another by staying away from each other. We protected our elders by avoiding them. It was not only fear that kept us apart, but love.   For us, that often meant staying away from our grandparents when we were sick.

Our grandfather has Alzheimer's disease. He requires full time care. He can no longer walk, eat, or bath on his own. As a family we are fortunate enough to be able to provide the care he needs, at home.  Not everyone has this option, and we are grateful to have that opportunity.  Alzheimer's disease, and others like it, are very difficult on the entire family. For us, one of the most upsetting aspects of these diseases is knowing our loved one is aware of his own deterioration. On some days he seems to be unaware of the things that go on around him, but on other days he might have moments of clarity. In those moments, he is aware that he is losing himself, and he becomes sad. It was in one of these moments, that the first seeds of our organization took root.  We wanted to find ways to bring enrichment back into our grandfather's life.  We took him outside in his wheel chair,  into the sunshine, where he could watch birds and squirrels in the yard.  We bought potting soil and seeds and asked him to teach us how to plant them. We wanted him to feel needed and useful. This was the beginning of what would become our great mission.

We quickly realized that our grandfather wasn't the only one benefitting from our activities.  Our children were witnessing acts of love, and they wanted to participate. They were learning true life lessons. They were showing kindness. They were seeing that love, REAL love, is more than an emotion you feel.  Sometimes love is doing something for someone else, because they can't do it for themselves. We were setting an example, and they were building character.

We want to share these experiences with our entire community. We want to enrich the lives of the people around us, and develop the character of the next generation. Our goal is to provide enrichment activities, and volunteer services to elders, children, and families in our area.
